Friday, July 31st, 2009Farmer makes new Aston Martin cars in shed!
Monday, July 27th, 2009British car engineering is all about men with beards building cars with their bare hands in a shed, and one man has gone right back to the roots by doing just that (without the beard).
Andy Soar is a farmer and is used to pottering around with tractors as part of his job. However, bored with the slow speeds that a tractor offers, he set up his own racing company located in his farm. Locked away in his shed for more hours than is usually healthy, Andy Soar has built a brand new Aston Martin DBR1 completely from scratch.

Ferrari makes redundancies amid poor F1 season
Sunday, July 26th, 2009No one could have predicted the events of this year’s Formula One world championship. With perennial pace setters Ferrari and McLaren off the pace and largely uncompetitive and new team Brawn GP leading the way, the 2009-2010 season has been a real surprise.
Naturally there was always going to be fallout, and Ferrari’s head of aerodynamics, John Iley, has been the first to go. The new Ferrari F60 F1 car has failed to finish first in any of the Grand Prix races so far this year, and the aerodynamics of the car are being blamed for that.
It seems that the
Free roadside assistance for owners of classic Ferraris!
Friday, July 24th, 2009For any owner of a classic car one of the most frustrating things is the fact that you’ll constantly need roadside assistance. There’s no getting away from it, when you drive a car that’s decades old you’ll find it invariably lets you down from time to time, meaning an embarrassing wait by the roadside for the tow truck or repair van to show up and spare your blushes.
Ferrari, being Ferrari, have come up with a solution for this in Italy. Any owner of a classic used Ferrari can receive free roadside assistance from Ferrari themselves if they require it.
New Porsche and VW deal close?
Thursday, July 23rd, 2009It appears that the deal between German car giants Porsche and Volkswagen could be close, which would save the former from potential bankruptcy. The rival factions in control of the two carmakers are to meet today (on Thursday 23rd July) to discuss a deal that could decide who has control over the eventual company that emerges.
The contentious ownership wrangle has split the owners of Porsche down the middle.
The two companies will get together to discuss their future, with one of the roadblocks on the horizon being the tax liability that would be faced by the two merging. Should Porsche
Former Ferrari boss to be FIA president?
Thursday, July 23rd, 2009Following the battles between the FIA and the drivers association this season in Formula One, the current president of the FIA, Max Mosley, will stand down when his term ends on October. The war erupted over the proposed budget cap for next season, which the F1 teams were violently opposed to (in particular Ferrari, who didn’t think they could develop a new Ferrari car to be competitive with such restrictions).
Now that the budget cap has been scrapped, Mosley will step down, paving the way for a new president of the FIA, and former Ferrari boss Jean Todt looks set
Buy a used Porsche owned by Robert Redford
Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009There seems to have been a spate of celebrity owned cars coming up for sale recently, most notably cars owned by footballers Cristiano Ronaldo and Michael Owen. Now a used Porsche owned by a slightly higher calibre celebrity is to become available to buy, from actor and director Robert Redford.
The used Porsche is one of many cars that will be auctioned off in Dorset, with the collection expected to reach in the region of £750,000. The auction is called the Sherborne Castle’s Classic Car show and among the cars included in the sale are a Morris Minor Tourer from
Raikkonen wants podium finish for his Ferrari
Tuesday, July 21st, 2009Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen believes that he can emulate the success of his teammate Felipe Massa and achieve a top three finish in the next Grand Prix in Hungary. According to Raikkonen, his new Ferrari F60 should be perfectly suited to the Hungarian Grand Prix as it’s a slower circuit.
Kimi Raikkonen commented:
“The F60 should run pretty well at the Hungaroring with its many slow corners.
“Furthermore, the temperatures should be slightly higher than at the weekend in Germany: it would be great to gain another podium.”
Raikkonen expressed his satisfaction with his current car, despite the fact that the Ferrari cars have
Job cuts at Aston, despite new Aston Martin launch
Thursday, July 16th, 2009Aston Martin may have just debuted the new Aston Martin One-77, one of the most beautiful and sought after cars in the world, but that hasn’t stopped the firm needing to make cuts. According to a union representative, as many as 95 workers could lose their jobs from an Aston Martin plant in Gaydon.
Aston Martin gave proposals to cut costs, but the union rejected them meaning that redundancies are the only alternative. In December the firm announced that 600 workers would lose their jobs as Aston struggled with the recession.
A union spokesperson added:
“This all comes about after a series
Ferrari to concentrate on new car for 2010
Wednesday, July 15th, 2009Ferrari is about to concede the 2009 F1 season and cease any further development work on the current car in favour of developing the new Ferrari car for the 2010 season. This is in spite of the podium finish that Felipe Massa achieved in this weekend’s German Grand Prix.
According to Stefano Domenicali, the boss of Ferrari’s F1 team:
“We’ve already started work on the new project and in the next couple of weeks we will move on to that. We want to start with a different pace compared to this year.”
Neither Massa nor his fellow Ferrari driver Kimi Raikkonen are
